A programme to offer club nights for people with learning disabilities in Crawley has been launched.
Hayley Wilkins, a manager at Consensus, a care provider for individuals with learning disabilities and additional needs, has organised the programme in association with local nightclub, Moka, which has offered its services free of charge.
“Moka has been instrumental in the success of our club nights,” said Wilkins. “They’ve been so kind and always offered their venue for free and that also includes the DJ and their lights. It’s a wonderful experience for all involved.
“We normally only get the chance to take people with learning disabilities to the local village hall for an event. Taking them to a real nightclub is an amazing experience for everyone on so many levels. It’s absolutely fantastic as they dance all night and just love it. At our last event we staged a Halloween ball and everyone was dressed as ghosts and ghouls.”
Further club nights have been planned and it is hoped that a Christmas event will be staged in the new few weeks.
The Halloween club event at Moka also acted as a fundraiser for Consensus’ Crawley-based Little Smugglers’ new sensory room project and the team raised more than £360 on the night.
