Housing solutions – accommodating common sense

People with learning disabilities on long housing waiting lists stand to benefit after a change in approach from supported living service Eden Futures.

Eden partners housing residentEstablished in 1994, Eden Futures’ business model has traditionally involved an emphasis on targeting properties suitable for development, rather than areas with identified need.

Retaining a focus on securing the “right” properties remains, but now the developers are doing greater groundwork identifying high demand ahead of making purchases.

Residents have moved into ten new Eden Futures schemes in high demand areas for people with learning disabilities across the country over the last twelve months.

Meeting demand

In partnership with social landlords BeST and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Eden Futures has just welcomed the first two tenants to its newest apartments, in Rotherham.

Having identified local need in South Yorkshire, Eden Futures anticipates its other ten new apartments accommodating 24-hour care and support to promote independent living will be filled shortly.

“Working as a partner with commissioners and housing providers gives the best outcomes to those we support,” said Andrew Lennox, CEO at Eden Futures.
