Fantasy adventure films Goosebumps and Capture the Flag lead the Autism Friendly Films line-up for February, service provider Dimensions has announced.
Cineworld cinemas will show the PG-rated Goosebumps on Sunday, February 7 at 11am. In addition, 9 ODEON cinemas will show the film on Monday, February 29 at 6pm.
Capture the Flag, which is also rated PG, will be screened at selected Showcase cinemas on Sunday, February 14 at 10am.
Meanwhile, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Road Chip will be shown at ODEON cinemas on Sunday, February 28 at 11:30am. On the same date, Vue cinemas will show The Good Dinosaur, starting at 10am.
In Goosebumps, teenager Zach Cooper is upset about moving to a small town from a big city, but perks up when he meets his new next-door neighbour, Hannah, who happens to be the daughter of RL Stine, the writer of the Goosebumps series of books. It turns out that the monsters of Stine’s books are not just the product of his imagination, but real and he protects his readers by keeping them locked up in his books. But when Zach accidentally frees the monsters and they start to terrorise the town, it is up to Zach, Hannah, Stine and Zach’s friend Champ to get them back into the books.
Meanwhile, in Capture the Flag, when 12-year-old Mike Goldwing discovers an eccentric billionaire’s plan to fly to the moon, steal the moon’s vast mineral resources, and destroy the American flag planted by the Apollo XI team, he stows away on the space shuttle to try and stop him. Accompanied by his grandfather – a former, but forgotten, astronaut now largely isolated from his family – best friends Amy and Marty, and a chameleon, Mike goes to the moon to capture the flag and reunite his family.
In the latest in the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise, Road Chip sees Alvin and his brothers, Simon and Theodore, come to wrongly believe that Dave is about to propose to his new girlfriend in Miami –and dump them. They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal, saving themselves not only from losing Dave but possibly from gaining a terrible stepbrother.
Finally, animated film The Good Dinosaur asks what might have happened had the asteroid not wiped out the dinosaurs? Here, an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.
Sensory friendly environment
Autism Friendly Screenings are mainstream films shown in a sensory friendly environment. Lights are on low, sound is turned down, trailers are omitted and people can bring their own food, make noise and move around the cinema as they feel comfortable.
